Background and rationale
The Kenyan Green and Digital Innovation Hub (gDIH), is a one stop shop support facility for MSMEs, start-ups, and innovators that seek to develop and scale up their green and digital oriented business. It is mandated to support Kenyan enterprises in their digital and green transformation by providing MSMEs, start-ups, and innovators demand driven services under four key pillars: access to innovation support facilities, access to finance, skills development, innovation ecosystem building. The hub’s focus sectors are agriculture, energy, ICT and smart cities, while the focus technologies are automation, cybersecurity, cloud computing and IoTs.
The gDIH will provide access to testing facilities for MSMEs to test their products and solutions in real-world settings. It will also partner with research institutions and universities to provide access to research facilities.
Objectives of the Consultancy
The goal of this mapping activity is to develop a framework to facilitate MSMEs, Startups and Innovators to access testing, piloting and demonstration facilities in universities, research organizations and TVETS and to strengthen collaboration between innovators and training institutions.
Duties and responsibilities
The consultant is expected to:
- Document unique equipment required by innovators, start-ups and MSMEs to support the commercialization of their innovations.
- Undertake a mapping of existing assets that can support innovation and commercialization (testing, experimentation, piloting, and demonstrations) in our universities, research organizations and TVETs.
- Prepare a digital map of which assets existing where for access by SMEs.
- Identify those institutions that are willing to partner with the hub through provision of the existing facilities.
- Develop a digital map of partner institutions that can provide testing, piloting and testing facilities to innovators, start-ups and MSMEs in all the 47 countries of Kenya.
Experience and qualifications
- Ability to produce high quality reports that offer innovative solutions
- Excellent data collection and analytical skills
- Capacity to carry out extensive mapping exercise within a short period of time
- Evidence of having carried out consultancies of a similar scale
