Dr. Ståhl was Director of the International Foundation for Science (IFS), a position which he held from 2002 until his retirement in September 2010. As IFS Director he led the work to transform the IFS research grant scheme to focus on supporting young researchers based in under-resourced institutions with vulnerable scientific infrastructure.
