The Digital Platforms Kenya (DigiKen) Project is a transformative 36-month United Nations Joint Programme supported by the Joint SDG Fund. The initiative is designed to expand digital inclusion by equipping women, men, youth, persons with disabilities (PWDs), residents of urban informal settlements, refugees, other marginalized groups, and micro, small, and medium-sized enterprises (MSMEs) with the digital skills needed to thrive in today’s economy.
DigiKen aims to bridge the digital divide by providing learners with practical digital skills, access to learning opportunities, mentorship, and pathways to participate meaningfully in the digital economy. The programme focuses on two key outcomes: strengthening access to capital for MSMEs, local start-ups, and entrepreneurs developing digital platform solutions, and empowering women, youth, and marginalized communities to pursue digital entrepreneurship and employment opportunities.
Since 2025, the African Centre for Technology Studies (ACTS), through its Green and Digital Innovation Hub Kenya (gDIH), has served as the implementing partner for the DigiKen programme.
The programme is delivered through a network of 15 regional Digital Innovation Hubs across Kenya. Using a Training of Trainers (ToT) model, these hubs build the capacity of local trainers who, in turn, support learners in accessing high-quality digital skills training through the DigiKen Academy virtual learning platform. This decentralized approach enables the programme to reach diverse communities across the country while fostering sustainable local digital ecosystems.
