Benard Mucholwa Simiyu is a research fellow in the Climate Resilient Economies (CRE) Program at the African Centre for Technology Studies (ACTS). He holds a PhD in aquatic ecology from the University of Innsbruck in Austria, a Master of Science in Environmental Sciences with a Specialization in Limnology and Wetlands Ecosystems from the Institute for Water Education (UNESCO-IHE) in the Netherlands, and a Bachelor of Science in Applied Aquatic Sciences from Egerton University in Kenya. He has more than 10 years of experience as a researcher in aquatic ecosystems, in particular on the issue of eutrophication and its impacts, such as the frequent occurrence of harmful algal blooms and cyanotoxins concentrations in the Nyanza Gulf of Lake Victoria. He also has three publications in peer-reviewed journals as a first author. Presently, he is part of the team implementing the Blue Empowerment project, Just Energy Transitions, and RURALITIES projects.
