Romain Lucas Glèlè Kakaï is a Professor of Biomathematics, Head of the “Laboratoire de Biomathématiques et d’Estimations Forestières” and Coordinator of the Master and PhD Programs in Biostatistics at the University of Abomey-Calavi (Republic of Benin). He obtained his Engineer degree in Forestry in 2000 and MSc and PhD in Biomathematics at the Gembloux Agricultural University (Belgium) in 2001 and 2005 respectively. His research interests are subdivided in five main areas: i) Application of AI and Machine learning in Agriculture; ii) Linear and generalized linear mixed models; ii) nonlinear models; iv) forest dynamics modeling and v) assessment of natural forest structure. He has been young affiliate (2011-2015) of The World Academy of Sciences (TWAS), young scientist of the World Economic Forum (2012). He is currently Chair of the African-German Network of Excellence in Science (AGNES) affiliated to the German Ministry of Education and Research. His research activities yield so far (2021) more than 225 scientific papers in international journals, 4 books and many edited communications. Moreover, he obtained several prizes in his career: “Biometrie 88” in Belgium (2002), “Jan Tinbergen”, International Statistical Institute (2005), “Heinz and Johannes” in ecology, Support Africa International (2007) and Alexander von Humboldt Fellow (2007).
