The MECS East Africa Launch is organized by ACTS through The Africa Sustainability Hub in partnership with Loughborough University and UK Aid. ASH is a partnership hosted at ACTS with the aim of bringing together leading think tanks in Africa and the UK to pursue coordinated evidence based research and capacity building on pathways to pro-poor energy access.
MECS is new 5 year UK Aid funded research and innovation programme designed to facilitate a transition away from biomass to modern cooking solutions, such as electricity and LPG. The programme is led by Loughborough University, UK, drawing in global partnerships, including the World Bank’s ESMAP (Energy Sector Management Assistance Program) and CCA (Clean Cooking Alliance, formerly GACC).
East Africa has been identified by our recent research as one of the most viable regions for new modern energy cooking innovations, such as solar electric cooking. The purpose of this event is to bring together key regional stakeholders to discuss the viability of such innovations in different East African contexts and to build partnerships that can ensure their successful development and delivery .
